Our Work at James Madison's Montpelier
Selected fOr our vast experience with old homes, classic restoration techniques, and attention to detail
In 2003, a historical restoration effort began at James Madison’s Montpelier, an effort to return the home to James Madison’s original structure and 1820 appearance. The process lasted close to five years and involved demolishing additions made to the house by the duPont family, removing stucco exterior to reveal the original brick, and reconstructing its interior, using authentic materials including horsehair plaster and paint containing linseed oil and chalk [more history can be read here].
Webber Painting was the painting company selected to complete all of the preparatory, plaster, and paint work. Webber refinished and prepared new and old surfaces for paint adhesion and primed these interior surfaces for paint to be applied in a traditional 19th century fashion. Webber Painting’s part in this restoration took around 4 years to complete.
